DALY losses were considerable amongst postmenopausal women with osteoporosis. Not having a prior bone fracture, being older, using a SERM and having less osteoporotic risk factors were all linked to less DALY losses.
In postmenopausal women, bisphosphonates have not been shown to better decrease risk of first fracture compared with calcium and vitamin D therapy alone.

The switch from tenofovir to abacavir seems to induce a positive effect on bone tissue, since bone turnover markers decreased. In addition, circulating sclerostin levels increased, a change associated with improved bone properties.
